You know, the core of personal development is to improve self-awareness and develop our potentials to become our best selves and reach our goals in life. In a nutshell, it is a philosophy of life where you improve yourself in all possible ramifications to function and perform better in relation to others, whether in the home, work or the society at large.
Often times we personalize this philosophy, probably because it is called personal development. And we forget the basic core, which is improving yourself so that you can perform and function better in relation to OTHERS.
Though it’s about improving yourself, it is to benefit others, to actually help others. It isn’t for isolation. It is to help you achieve everything you hope to achieve, while still helping and connecting with other people as much and as far as you can.
Help as many people as you can to get what they want, and you will have everything you want. ~ Zig Ziglar.
It is a ripple effect. When you create solutions to specific life problems that you can, and help others whom you can best help reach their goals, you’ll increasingly become more confident and aware of your own capabilities. By these, you’d develop more expertise/experience and become even more fulfilled. Again, you’ll gain recommendations from some of those whom you have connected with and this may be crucial enough to change an aspect of your life if not now, at some point.
The thing is, as you share your stories and use your skills to invest in others, you’d be investing in yourself too and this may take you farther than you think. The more you help others, the more appreciated you’ll be.
As Napoleon Hill would put it;
It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.
This gives you a sense of purpose and direction. By making the lives of others better, in addition to yours. That is what personal development is all about. To serve others better. But first, you have to find personal joy and fulfillment in yourself and that thing you’re doing, before you can give same to others.
You want to be sure you’re doing what you love and need to use that to help others. That’s the best way to add value. Not like you’re being forced or compelled to, just for the rewards.
So as you offer your services, you’re doing so in your own way. Because no one teaches you how to love what you do. When you love what you do, you’re in a better position to help others.
Let me tell you how helping others help you too in personal development;
- Giving attracts same back to you. When you offer your knowledge, skills, etc you receive. You get rewarded. Others give back to you too. You never know when, why or how favour comes.
- By helping others you’re spreading positive energy. When you smile and put a smile on someone else’s face, you lit them up. You’re spreading love, giving hope, and making a difference.
- It is a win-win situation. You learn, you grow, reach out and connect with others, whilst also reaching your own goals.
You’ll get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want. ~ Zig Ziglar.
