The Power in “starting”

All glory comes from daring to begin“~ Eugene F. Ware.

We all have dreams, we all have goals, many of us have plans of things we want to do. We write them down and then dream about them all day. The hard part? Taking action!!

It seems always difficult to start anything. The zeal may be there, plans outlined. But the problem is the starting part. The truth is, when you actually start a thing, you’ll become more motivated to take further steps and that’s how you’d gradually work towards achieving your dreams/goals.

Its always scary to start. Ofcourse no one wants to face the uncertainties, everyone fears that what if I fail? Thought. Sometimes life happens! And we move on to other things. It may also be because of the feeling of inadequacy, there could be a thousand and one reasons why we can’t start.

But let’s look at it from this angle; If you give ‘that idea’ a shot and receive a favorable response, you’d take another encouraging small step. Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step right? And if you receive a negative feedback, you pause and analyze. There’s always something to learn in order to re-strategise and re-launch. Whichever way, it’s a win-win.

Success most times stem from failure. It’s a step. You don’t give up for not succeeding first. You ACT, you LEARN, and then you BUILD. It’s a repetitive process. If anything you want should ever happen, you need to get started with it.

When I first thought of creating a blog to express my thoughts, like many other works, projects, or ideas, i put it off severally because I couldn’t take the plunge. Now, I’m allowing myself grow with it.

The strongest resistance we have is the law of inertia. The body wants to continue in its state of rest (Locked potentials). Or uniform motion/velocity (never wants to explore). The last time I checked, change is the only constant thing in life.

That idea may worth millions of dollars ( who knows) in a few years but it is lying in its state of rest. Except ofcourse you ACT on it. You don’t need to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

The power in starting is that it gives you the opportunity to explore and learn. You’re able to express your creativity and create your own brand. You become the captain of your ship and you create the life you so desire.

Take a leap of faith today wouldn’t you?

Until next time,

Jessica Hugo

  2. I can’t tell you how badly I needed to read this. The fear of failure has nearly driven me insane and I need to understand that even I do fail (I hope I don’t) or am not perfect, it’ll still be an experience.

    1. Everyone fears failure, you’re not alone. No one starts any venture with the hope to fail. But let’s not allow that fear of failure hold us back from actually doing something. Every experience is useful. Thanks Farwa

  3. I’m reading this at the right time. I have so many ideas that I want to see through. The one constant thing in my life has been writing and I will continue to enjoy the process of writing. I have let a few ideas go, but I continue to build my brand and reap the rewards that come.

    1. I’m with you on this and I can totally relate. I do have so many things I want to see through too and I’m sharing this just so we gain some momentum. We can start to make that change sooner than later

  5. Wonderful story here! Its always hardest to get started, so many are nervous about not having success from the first moment. Many don’t realize that not succeeding the first time is learning and growing. Thank you for this share and inspiration!
